ABSTRACT
Despite its long history, starting from the classical works of Faraday (1832) and Kolbe (1849) on electrolysis of carboxylic acids, synthetic organic electrochemistry has become a hot topic just recently and a plethora of intriguing works have been published. Herein the discussion will be focused on our contribution in this field with an emphasis on electrochemical activation of aromatic and aliphatic carboxylic acids, oxidative C-H cyanation and thiocyanation reactions, and application of such reaction in the synthesis of pharmaceutically relevant compounds. Additionally, technical issues and secrets of the efficient discovery of new electrochemical reactions will be disclosed.
